 Introduced  by  Sen.  CLEARE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Crime Victims,  Crime  and
   Correction
 
 AN  ACT  to  amend  the  correction  law,  in relation to establishing a
   program to purchase fresh produce from farms in the state  for  incar-
   cerated individuals

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 137 of the correction law is amended  by  adding  a
 new subdivision 3-a to read as follows:
   3-A.  THE  COMMISSIONER  SHALL  ESTABLISH  A PROGRAM TO PURCHASE FRESH
 PRODUCE FROM FARMS LOCATED  IN  THE  STATE  AND  DISTRIBUTE  SUCH  FRESH
 PRODUCE  TO  CORRECTIONAL  FACILITIES IN THE STATE TO BE UTILIZED IN THE
 PROVISION OF WHOLESOME AND NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO  INCARCERATED  INDIVIDUALS
 PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
