BILL NUMBER: S7047 SPONSOR: FERNANDEZ TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 139 of the laws of 2020 amending the election law relating to absentee voting, in relation to the effectiveness there- of; and to amend chapter 2 of the laws of 2022 amending the election law relating to absentee voting in village elections, in relation to the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE: This bill would temporarily extend (until December 31, 2023) absentee voting due to the risk of 'contracting or spreading a disease. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill amends section one of chapter 2 of the laws of 2022 amending section two of Chapter 139 of the laws of 2820 to change the repeal date from December 31, 2022 to December 31, 2023. FERNANDEZ -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections AN ACT to amend chapter 139 of the laws of 2020 amending the election law relating to absentee voting, in relation to the effectiveness thereof; and to amend chapter 2 of the laws of 2022 amending the election law relating to absentee voting in village elections, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 139 of the laws of 2020 amending the election law relating to absentee voting, as amended by chapter 2 of the laws of 2022, is amended to read as follows: § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be deemed repealed December 31, [2022] 2023. § 2. Section 4 of chapter 2 of the laws of 2022 amending the election law relating to absentee voting in village elections is amended to read as follows: § 4. This act shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to have been in full force and effect on and after December 31, 2021; provided however that the provisions of sections two and three of this act shall expire and be deemed repealed December 31, [2022] 2023. § 3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to have been in full force and effect on and after December 31, 2022.
