BILL NUMBER: S7167 SPONSOR: WEBB TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to a free or reduced food plan for certain students enrolled at state and city universities PURPOSE:: To create a free or reduced meal plan for low-income SUNY and CUNY students SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:: Section 1 is amended to add a new subdivision to create a free or reduced meal plan for SUNY students whose household incomes are below the federal poverty line, who participate in educational opportunity programs, and who receive Pell grants. Section 2 is amended to add a new subdivision to create a free or reduced meal plan for CUNY students whose household incomes are below

WEBB -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to a free or reduced food plan for certain students enrolled at state and city universities THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 355 of the education law is amended by adding a new subdivision 22 to read as follows: 22. THE STATE UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES SHALL CREATE A FREE OR REDUCED MEAL PLAN TO AID STUDENTS WHOSE HOUSEHOLD INCOMES ARE BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LINE, STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMS UNDER SECTION THREE HUNDRED FIFTY-FIVE-D OF THIS ARTICLE AND STUDENTS RECEIVING FEDERAL PELL GRANTS. § 2. Section 6206 of the education law is amended by adding a new subdivision 22 to read as follows: 22. THE CITY UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES SHALL CREATE A FREE OR REDUCED MEAL PLAN TO AID STUDENTS WHOSE HOUSEHOLD INCOMES ARE BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LINE, STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMS UNDER SECTION THREE HUNDRED FIFTY-FIVE-D OF THIS CHAPTER AND STUDENTS RECEIVING FEDERAL PELL GRANTS. § 3.
