 Introduced  by  Sen.  COONEY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government
 
 AN ACT in relation to establishing  a  Monroe  county  housing  advocate
   pilot  program;  and  providing for the repeal of such provisions upon
   expiration thereof

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  1.  There  is  hereby established a Monroe county housing
 advocate pilot program.  Such program shall be funded through  appropri-
 ations  made  available for such purpose.  Such program shall provide to
 residents of Monroe county, but not be limited to, the following:
   (a) information and resources to current  or  prospective  tenants  on
 housing  issues such as securing housing, eviction matters, issue resol-
 ution with landlords, and any other topics such  advocate  deems  impor-
 tant; and
   (b)  referrals  to  legal  assistance or social service providers when
 applicable.
   2. Such program shall work in cooperation with  all  relevant  housing
 organizations, advocacy groups, and housing courts in the region.
   3.  Such  program  shall  conduct,  at least biannually, a workshop or
 forum for residents of the county to learn about housing-related matters
 and receive relevant resources.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day  after  it  shall
 have  become  a  law  and  shall expire and be deemed repealed two years
 after such effective date.
