BILL NUMBER: S8108 SPONSOR: SCARCELLA-SPANTON TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the tax law, in relation to a veteran tax deduction PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To provide veterans, as defined by subdivision three of section one of the veterans' services law, in New York State with a tax deduction of an amount equal to six thousand dollars. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends subsection (c) of section 612 of the tax law by adding a para- graph (47) which creates a tax deduction in an amount equal to six thou- sand dollars for veterans, as defined in subdivision three of section one of the veterans' services law. SCARCELLA-SPANTON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Budget and Reven- ue AN ACT to amend the tax law, in relation to a veteran tax deduction THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subsection (c) of section 612 of the tax law is amended by adding a new paragraph 47 to read as follows: (47) IN THE CASE OF A TAXPAYER WHO IS A VETERAN, AN AMOUNT EQUAL TO SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, THE TERM "VETER- AN" SHALL HAVE THE SAME MEANING AS DEFINED IN SUBDIVISION THREE OF SECTION ONE OF THE VETERANS' SERVICES LAW. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to all taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2024.
