BILL NUMBER: S8417 SPONSOR: SKOUFIS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring the immunization of certain post-secondary students against hepatitis B PURPOSE: To safeguard public health by ensuring that a high percentage of postse- condary students are immunized against hepatitis B. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends paragraph d of subdivision 1 of section 2165 of the public health law. Adds hepatitis B to the list of immunizations required for postsecondary students. Section 2: Sets Effective Date.

S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 8417 I N S E N A T E January 29, 2024 ___________ Introduced by Sen. SKOUFIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring the immunization of certain post-secondary students against hepatitis B THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph d of subdivision 1 of section 2165 of the public health law, as added by chapter 405 of the laws of 1989, is amended to read as follows: d. The term "immunization" means an adequate dose or doses of an immunizing agent against measles, mumps [and], rubella AND HEPATITIS B which meets the standards approved by the United States public health service for such biological products, and which is approved by the state department of health under such conditions as may be specified by the public health council. § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such date.
