 Introduced  by  Sen. MANNION -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Civil Service and Pensions
 
 AN ACT in relation to making eligible for  provisional  appointment  and
   authorizing  Matthew  A.  Jones  to take the competitive civil service
   examination for the position of police officer and be  placed  on  the
   eligible  list  for  employment  as a part-time police officer for the
   village of Liverpool police department
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil
 service law, including the  age  requirements  under  paragraph  (a)  of
 subdivision  1  of  such  section, or any other law to the contrary, the
 village of Liverpool, in the county of Onondaga, shall be authorized  to
 appoint Matthew A. Jones as a provisional part-time police officer until
 such  time  he is able to take the competitive civil service examination
 and be appointed as a permanent full-time police  officer;  and  further
 Matthew A. Jones shall be eligible to take the competitive civil service
 examination  for  the  position  of police officer and shall, contingent
 upon his score on such examination, be eligible  to  be  placed  on  the
 eligible  list  for  appointment  as a full-time police officer with the
 village of Liverpool police department.
   § 2. Matthew A. Jones shall otherwise be  subject  to  the  merit  and
 fitness  provisions  of  the  civil  service law applicable to full-time
 police officers.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
