BILL NUMBER: S8762 SPONSOR: SKOUFIS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the transportation law, in relation to directing the department of transportation to implement a system to reduce time spent at multiple department of transportation checkpoints in the same day PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this legislation is to have DOT implement a safety check- point system so that trucks only have to stop at safety checkpoints once a day. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: The transportation law is amended by adding a new section 14-0. Section 2: Establishes the effective date. JUSTIFICATION:

SKOUFIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the transportation law, in relation to directing the department of transportation to implement a system to reduce time spent at multiple department of transportation checkpoints in the same day THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The transportation law is amended by adding a new section 14-o to read as follows: § 14-O. TRUCK CHECKPOINT EFFICIENCY SYSTEM. 1. THE DEPARTMENT IS HERE- BY DIRECTED TO CREATE AND IMPLEMENT A SYSTEM IN ORDER THAT TRUCKS WHICH HAVE STOPPED AT A DEPARTMENT SAFETY INSPECTION SITE ON A GIVEN DAY SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED TO STOP AT OTHER DEPARTMENT SAFETY INSPECTION SITES ON THE SAME DAY. 2. NO LATER THAN ONE YEAR AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS SECTION, THE COMMISSIONER SHALL SUBMIT TO THE GOVERNOR, THE TEMPORARY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE, AND THE SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY A REPORT OUTLINING THE NEW SYSTEM REQUIRED PURSUANT TO SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION, HOW SUCH SYSTEM OPERATES, AND HOW SUCH SYSTEM SHALL BE COMMUNICATED TO DRIV- ERS IN THE STATE. § 2.
