STECK, K. BROWN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Economic Development AN ACT to amend the cannabis law, in relation to requiring the develop- ment and implementation of a comprehensive education campaign on the dangers of cannabinoid use THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 19 of the cannabis law, as amended by section 14 of part UU of chapter 56 of the laws of 2023, is amended to read as follows: § 19. Public health and education campaign. The office, in consulta- tion with the commissioners of the department of health, office of addiction services and supports, and office of mental health, shall develop and implement a comprehensive public health monitoring, surveil- lance and education campaign regarding the legalization of adult-use cannabis and the impact of cannabis use on public health and safety. THE OFFICE, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE OFFICE OF ADDICTION SERVICES AND SUPPORTS AND OFFICE OF MENTAL HEALTH, SHALL DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN REGARDING THE DANGERS OF CANNABINOID USE. The public health and education campaign shall also include general education to the public about the cannabis law, including the potential risks associated with patronizing unlicensed retail locations, or other- wise procuring cannabis product, cannabinoid hemp or hemp extract prod- uct through persons not authorized by the office. § 2.
