FORREST -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Mental Health AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to requiring suicide prevention hotline centers to meet certain requirements for individ- uals who are in the perinatal period THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph 7 of subdivision (c) of section 36.03 of the mental hygiene law, as added by section 2 of part EE of chapter 57 of the laws of 2022, is amended to read as follows: (7) A designated hotline center shall meet the requirements set forth by New York State and the NSPL for serving high risk and specialized populations including but not limited to: Black, African American, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Alaskan Native; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, queer, and ques- tioning individuals; veterans; members of rural communities; individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities; individuals experienc- ing homelessness or housing instability; INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PERINATAL PERIOD; immigrants and refugees; children and youth; older adults; and religious communities as identified by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, including training requirements and policies for providing linguistically and culturally competent care. § 2.
