2025-A5834 (ACTIVE) - Summary

Provides that early voting for any special election held on April 29, 2025 shall begin on April 21, 2025 and end on April 27, 2025; provides that the duration for early voting hours for any special election held on April 29, 2025 shall be equal to or greater than the minimum number of total hours otherwise required.

 AN  ACT  to  amend  the  election  law,  in relation to early voting for
   certain special elections;  and  providing  for  the  repeal  of  such
   provisions upon expiration thereof

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 8-600 of the election law is amended by adding  two
 new subdivisions 2-a and 4-a to read as follows:
   2-A. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, EARLY
 VOTING FOR ANY SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON THE TWENTY-NINTH DAY OF APRIL IN
 THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND TWENTY-FIVE SHALL BEGIN ON THE TWENTY-FIRST DAY OF
 APRIL  IN  THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND TWENTY-FIVE, AND SHALL END ON THE TWEN-
 TY-SEVENTH DAY OF APRIL IN THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND TWENTY-FIVE.
   4-A. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE  CONTRARY,  THE
 DURATION  FOR  EARLY  VOTING  HOURS FOR ANY SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON THE
 TWENTY-NINTH DAY OF APRIL IN THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND TWENTY-FIVE SHALL BE,
 IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SECTION, EQUAL  TO  OR
 GREATER  THAN  THE  MINIMUM  NUMBER OF TOTAL HOURS OTHERWISE REQUIRED BY
 THIS SECTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire  December
 31,  2025  when  upon  such  date  the  provisions  of this act shall be
 repealed.
