 AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to preventing the  over-
   detention of persons due to an outstanding warrant
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. The correction law is amended by adding a new section 12 to
 read as follows:
   § 12. DETENTION ON WARRANT FROM ANOTHER JURISDICTION. NO PERSON  SHALL
 BE  HELD  IN A STATE OR LOCAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY WITHIN THE STATE FOR
 MORE THAN 3 DAYS AFTER WHEN SUCH PERSON WOULD HAVE  BEEN  RELEASED  FROM
 SUCH  FACILITY  IF NOT FOR AN OUTSTANDING WARRANT FROM ANOTHER JURISDIC-
 TION UNLESS SUCH STATE OR LOCAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY WAS INFORMED  THAT
 THE WARRANT IS TO BE ACTED ON BY SUCH OTHER JURISDICTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
