S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 6979 2025-2026 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y March 18, 2025 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. HAWLEY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Local Governments AN ACT in relation to authorizing the town of Pavilion in Genesee county and the town of Covington in Wyoming county to elect a single town justice to preside in the town courts of such towns THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Pursuant to section 106-b of the uniform justice court act, the town of Pavilion in Genesee county and the town of Covington in Wyoming county have conducted and completed a study, each town having adopted a joint resolution providing for the study, conducted a public hearing upon the findings of the study, and adopted a joint resolution adopting such plan providing for the abolition of existing town justice positions in the towns of Pavilion and Covington and providing for the election of a single town justice to preside in the town courts of such towns. The town justice elected pursuant to this plan shall preside in the towns of Pavilion and Covington following the next general election in such towns and shall preside for the year term as elected. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD08644-01-5

HAWLEY, BAILEY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Local Governments -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT in relation to authorizing the town of Pavilion in Genesee county to share and hold justice court in the town of Covington in Wyoming county THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, rule or regu- lation to the contrary, the town of Pavilion in Genesee county and the town of Covington in Wyoming county have adopted a joint resolution providing for the adoption of a plan to authorize the town of Pavilion, Genesee county, to share and hold justice court in the town of Coving- ton, Wyoming county, pursuant to an agreement made between such towns for the use of such court. § 2.
