 AN ACT to amend the public health law,  in  relation  to  requiring  the
   department  of  health to develop and distribute educational materials
   to the public relating to common myths and  misconceptions  associated
   with asthma

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding  a  new  section
 2997-f-2 to read as follows:
   §  2997-F-2.  PROVISION  OF  INFORMATION  RELATING  TO  ASTHMA. 1. THE
 DEPARTMENT SHALL DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO  THE
 PUBLIC,  INCLUDING  BUT  NOT  LIMITED  TO  PAMPHLETS, POSTERS AND ONLINE
 RESOURCES, RELATING TO COMMON MYTHS AND MISCONCEPTIONS  ASSOCIATED  WITH
 ASTHMA.  SUCH  EDUCATIONAL  MATERIALS  SHALL  BE  CULTURALLY  COMPETENT,
 LINGUISTICALLY ACCESSIBLE, AND TAILORED TO MEET  THE  NEEDS  OF  DIVERSE
 POPULATIONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, ADULTS, AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS.
   2.  THE  DEPARTMENT SHALL MAKE SUCH EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AVAILABLE ON
 ITS WEBSITE AND THROUGH OTHER CHANNELS, INCLUDING BY HEALTHCARE  PROVID-
 ERS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, SCHOOLS, AND LIBRARIES.
   3.  THE DEPARTMENT SHALL CONSULT WITH RELEVANT STAKEHOLDERS, INCLUDING
 BUT NOT LIMITED TO HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS,  COMMUNITY-BASED  ORGANIZA-
 TIONS,  AND  ADVOCACY  GROUPS IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE ACCURACY, RELEVANCE
 AND EFFECTIVENESS OF SUCH EDUCATION MATERIALS.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
