2025-A7879 (ACTIVE) - Summary

Waives tuition requirements for nonresident pupils if the nonresident pupil is enrolled in a school where the pupil's parent or guardian is a principal, a teacher or a paraprofessional or the nonresident pupil is enrolled at another school within the same district as a school where the pupil's parent or guardian is a principal, a teacher or a paraprofessional.

 AN  ACT  to  amend  the  education  law,  in relation to waiving tuition
   requirements for nonresident pupils whose parent works  as  an  educa-
   tional professional within the same district

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 2045 of the education law is amended  by  adding  a
 new subdivision 5 to read as follows:
   5.  NO CHARGE FOR THE INSTRUCTION OF A NONRESIDENT PUPIL SHALL BE MADE
 IF THE NONRESIDENT PUPIL IS ENROLLED  IN  A  SCHOOL  WHERE  THE  PUPIL'S
 PARENT  OR  GUARDIAN  IS A PRINCIPAL, A TEACHER OR A PARAPROFESSIONAL OR
 THE NONRESIDENT PUPIL IS ENROLLED AT  ANOTHER  SCHOOL  WITHIN  THE  SAME
 DISTRICT  AS  A SCHOOL WHERE THE PUPIL'S PARENT OR GUARDIAN IS A PRINCI-
 PAL, A TEACHER OR A PARAPROFESSIONAL.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to  school
 years commencing on and after July 1, 2025.
