CONGRATULATING Sergeant Station Commander David N.
Olney, upon the occasion of his retirement, after 37
years of distinguished service to the field of law
enforcement
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Sergeant Station Commander David N. Olney, upon the
occasion of his retirement, after 37 years of distinguished service to
the field of law enforcement, to be celebrated at Hart's Hill Inn in
Whitesboro, New York, on Friday, January 24, 2025; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, David N. Olney graduated from the Town of Webb
High School in Old Forge, New York, and continued his education at
Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York, where he obtained
his Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Criminal Justice in 1986; and
WHEREAS, In June of 1987, David N. Olney commenced his career in law
enforcement as Deputy Sheriff for the Oneida County Sheriff's Office
where he served his community until September of 1993; during his tenure
in that office, he filled the roles as Corrections Officer, Patrol
Deputy, and Criminal Investigator; and
WHEREAS, On September 27, 1993, David N. Olney became a Uniform
Trooper for the New York State Police; he achieved the rank of Sergeant
and was assigned to the Planning and Research section at the State
Police Headquarters in Albany on October 10, 2013; on July 27, 2017, he
served as Sergeant for the Sylvan Beach State Police; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant David N. Olney attained the rank of Sergeant
Station Commander, the rank under which he retired, in May of 2018,
serving the Herkimer State Police for more than four years; from January
of 2023 until his retirement two years later, he served the Marcy State
Police in the same capacity; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Station Commander David N. Olney participated in
many forms of specialized police training, including Safe Schools, child
passenger safety seats, Naloxone/Narcan administration, and the New York
State Police Impaired Driver Enforcement and Awareness (IDEA) program;
he has also instructed fellow law enforcement officers on various
programs; and
WHEREAS, For his exemplary service to his community and the citizens
of New York State and his countless achievements, Sergeant Station
Commander David N. Olney has earned and received numerous awards and
hundreds of commendations; in 2009, he was given the Oneida County
District Attorney's Distinguished Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Award; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Station Commander David N. Olney has participated
in various programs, committees, foundations, and organizations either
professionally or voluntarily with recognition for his public service;
several times he was recognized and bestowed awards by the New York
State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee; active in his immediate
community, he served as Head Usher for St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro
for nine years; and
WHEREAS, For the citizens of his community, Sergeant Station
Commander David N. Olney served with loyalty, honor, and distinction; in
his official acts, he was governed by a keen sense of duty and always
showed a unique grasp of human problems, assisting others in need and
providing essential services to members of his community; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Station Commander David N. Olney has earned the
admiration, esteem, and affection of his colleagues; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sergeant Station Commander David N. Olney, upon the
occasion of his retirement, after 37 years of distinguished service to
the field of law enforcement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sergeant Station Commander David N. Olney.
