HONORING Carlos Enrique Mendoza upon the occasion
of becoming the first Rookie Manager in New York
Mets history to make it to the postseason
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary athletes and coaches who excel in professional
athletics, distinguishing themselves through notable achievements and
representing this great Empire State with pride and determination; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Carlos Enrique Mendoza upon the occasion of becoming the first Rookie
Manager in New York Mets history to make it to the postseason; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Enrique Mendoza, born November 27, 1979, is a
professional baseball manager for the New York Mets of Major League
Baseball (MLB); he previously served as a bench coach for the New York
Yankees; and
WHEREAS, Of proud Hispanic heritage, Carlos Mendoza was born, raised
and attended college in Venezuela; he went on to play Minor League
Baseball for 13 seasons, signing as a free agent with the San Francisco
Giants and playing for the New York Yankees organization as a utility
infielder; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Mendoza became a member of the Staten Island Yankees
coaching staff in 2009 before joining the Charleston RiverDogs in 2010;
during the 2011 campaign, he served as the manager of the Gulf Coast
League Yankees; he then returned to the RiverDogs as their manager
before the 2012 season and became a roving defensive instructor in the
Yankees' organization after the 2012 season; and
WHEREAS, After the 2017 season, the Yankees promoted Carlos Mendoza
to their major league coaching staff as an infield coach; on November
11, 2019, he was named the bench coach of the Yankees; and
WHEREAS, On November 13, 2023, Carlos Mendoza was named the manager
of the New York Mets, signing a three-year contract with a club option
for a fourth year; and
WHEREAS, On September 30, 2024, the Mets clinched a playoff spot,
making Carlos Mendoza the first in Mets history to make the postseason
in his first season, as a rookie manager; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Carlos Mendoza, after
defeating the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series and the
Philadelphia Phillies in the Division Series, the Mets ended their 2024
season after a 10-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the
National League Championship Series; and
WHEREAS, On November 11, 2024, Carlos Mendoza was named a finalist
for National League Manager of the Year for his successful turnaround of
the Mets; and
WHEREAS, The auspicious occasion of his extraordinary rookie
managerial season provides a unique opportunity for this Legislative
Body to honor Carlos Enrique Mendoza for his accomplishments which are a
tribute to his skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carlos Enrique Mendoza upon the occasion of becoming the first
Rookie Manager in New York Mets history to make it to the postseason;
and be itfurther
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Carlos Enrique Mendoza.
