HONORING Boddhi Satva upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition at the Young,
Gifted, and Black Entrepreneurial Awards 20th
Anniversary Gala on February 26, 2025
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those
enduring individuals and organizations which devote their purposeful
energies to improving the quality and dignity of life of those they
serve, to preserving their heritage, and to fostering pride among them;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Boddhi Satva upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition at the Young, Gifted, and Black Entrepreneurial Awards 20th
Anniversary Gala on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Terrace on the
Park, Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Young, Gifted, & Black (YGB) Entrepreneurial Awards
were established in 2006 by Carl Gray as a platform to spotlight and
celebrate everyday individuals who serve as positive role models,
inspiring their peers through their accomplishments, perseverance, and
contributions; and
WHEREAS, Carl Gray's vision for the YGB Entrepreneurial Awards has
remained steadfast in ensuring recognition is given to those whose
contributions, though not always highlighted in mainstream media, have a
profound and lasting influence within their fields and society; and
WHEREAS, Boddhi Satva is a producer, DJ, label owner, entrepreneur,
teacher, and inspiring musician; since his debut release on the music
scene 20 years ago, this artistic honoree has become known for his
ability to weave African sounds into his music, creating R&B, soul,
hip-hop, Caribbean, Latin, and house music hits that transcend genre and
bend the sonic standards of modern music; and
WHEREAS, Nominated for an AFRIMA (All Africa Music Award) in 2015 in
the category of "Best African Electronic Music," and awarded the Brukmer
Golden Afro Artistic Award in 2017, Boddhi Satva has found success in
the creation of this nuanced sonic fabric made radiant by ancient
ancestral rhythms, memories, and melodies of Alkebulan, the Motherland,
and the Garden of Eden; and
WHEREAS, Boddhi Satva's affinity for, and understanding of
spiritual, political, and music history, in Africa and beyond, his
appreciation and curiosity for what came before, and his willingness to
engage with sounds from the past as he forges forward into the future
are what makes him utterly singular as a musician; and
WHEREAS, Boddhi Satva has performed at major venues worldwide,
including the Ministry of Sound, Cielo New York, and the W Hotel in
Doha, Qatar; his music, known as "Ancestral Soul," reflects a deep
connection to African spirituality, culture, and history, incorporating
diverse collaborations with artists from various genres and countries,
such as Bilal, Teedra Moses, and Omou Sangare; and
WHEREAS, Boddhi Satva's albums, including "Invocation" (2012),
"Transition" (2016), and "Manifestation" (2022), showcase his growth as
an artist and his mission to connect the African continent through club
music; his work has earned great recognition, with "Manifestation" being
named DJ Mag's Album of the Month; and
WHEREAS, Boddhi Satva also founded the Batakari label in 2020 to
promote African creativity, and has won awards for albums like Badi's
Trouble Fete; throughout the pandemic, the musician engaged with fans
through live broadcasts and has continued to tour globally, sharing his
innovative vision with music lovers worldwide; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
individuals and organizations which give positive definition to the
profile and disposition of the communities of the State of New York, do
so profoundly strengthen our shared commitment to the exercise of
freedom; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Boddhi Satva upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition at the Young, Gifted, and Black Entrepreneurial Awards 20th
Anniversary Gala on Wednesday, February 26, 2025; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Boddhi Satva.
