COMMEMORATING the International Day of Women and
Girls in Science on February 11, 2025
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those distinguished organizations and initiatives that foster
education, empowerment, and innovation, particularly for marginalized
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science,
organized by The Miss Caricom International Foundation CIP Inc., in
collaboration with the UN NGO MCIF UNESCO Institute of Fashion
Education, to be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025; and
WHEREAS, The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is a
globally recognized observance dedicated to promoting gender equality in
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and celebrating
the contributions of women and girls in scientific fields; and
WHEREAS, The theme for this year's observance, "Inspiring
Innovation: Women and Girls Leading the Way in Science," highlights the
importance of empowering women and young girls to lead groundbreaking
advancements, ensuring their representation in scientific research,
innovation, and technology-driven industries; and
WHEREAS, The Miss Caricom International Foundation CIP Inc., under
the visionary leadership of Ambassador Dr. Monica Sanchez, has been a
steadfast advocate for marginalized communities for over 21 years,
uplifting individuals through education, skills training, and the
promotion of global educational and economic empowerment initiatives;
and
WHEREAS, Through its UNESCO Institute of Fashion Education, the Miss
Caricom International Foundation has successfully trained over 250,000
graduates worldwide, equipping them with life skills that foster
self-sufficiency, economic empowerment, and professional development;
and
WHEREAS, The annual celebration of this event serves as a powerful
reminder of the role that women and girls play in advancing science and
technology while inspiring future generations to pursue careers in STEM
fields, regardless of gender or socioeconomic background; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper that this Legislative Body pause
in its deliberations to acknowledge the significance of this celebration
and to recognize the tremendous contributions of The Miss Caricom
International Foundation CIP Inc. and the UN NGO MCIF UNESCO Institute
of Fashion Education to advancing education, gender equality, and
innovation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on
February 11, 2025, and to honor the organizers, speakers, and
participants who continue to champion the empowerment of women and girls
in STEM; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ambassador Dr. Monica Sanchez, Founder of The Miss
Caricom International Foundation CIP Inc.
