MOURNING the death of Maurice M. Chalk Jr.,
distinguished citizen and devoted family man

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Maurice M. Chalk Jr. was one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Maurice M. Chalk Jr., who died
on April 4, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family; and

WHEREAS, Born on November 1, 1942, in Alpena, Michigan, Maurice
"Mel" M. Chalk Jr. was the beloved son of Maurice Sr. and Catherine
Chalk; and

WHEREAS, Maurice M. Chalk Jr. was a proud graduate of Hendrick
Hudson High School, Class of 1960, and went on to earn a Master's degree
in Finance from Rutgers University in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Before embarking on a distinguished 35-year career in the
banking industry, Maurice M. Chalk Jr. was an entrepreneur and
proprietor of The Snack Shack on Albany Post Road, a local establishment
fondly remembered by many; and

WHEREAS, Maurice M. Chalk Jr. began his illustrious banking career
as a teller at The County Trust Company, a community institution that
valued his dedication and leadership; he retired as Regional Vice
President at the Bank of New York, a testament to his professional
excellence and work ethic; and

WHEREAS, Deeply civic-minded, Maurice M. Chalk Jr. gave generously
of his time and talents to numerous local, county, and state
organizations; his community involvement included serving as a former
member of The Peekskill Community Ambulance Corps, Co-Chairman of St.
Patrick's Church Parish Council, Chairman of its Finance Committee, and
Treasurer of the Verplanck Fire District; and

WHEREAS, Maurice M. Chalk Jr. also served on the Westchester County
Youth Board, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and as Vice President
and Board Member of the American Association for the Improvement of
Boxing, among other endeavors; and

WHEREAS, A man of strong faith and deep conviction, Maurice M. Chalk
Jr. believed in service to others; he was also an avid fan of the New
York Yankees and a passionate follower of boxing; and

WHEREAS, Above all, Maurice M. Chalk Jr. was a devoted husband,
father, grandfather, brother, and friend; he is survived by his loving
wife of 60 years, Angela Avati Chalk; two children, Patrick (Ann Marie)
and Michael; his brother, John; sister-in-law, Marie Ray; five cherished
grandchildren, Briana, Ryan, Michael, Nicholas, and Justin; and his

nieces and nephews, Melissa, Emily, Allison, and Brian; he was
predeceased by his parents, Maurice Sr. and Catherine Chalk; his
stepmother, Katherine Chalk; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Ray and John
Avati; and his sister-in-law, Jerri Chalk; and

WHEREAS, Maurice M. Chalk's infinite selflessness and benevolence
will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight
and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to
the countless lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Maurice M. Chalk Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will
be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Maurice M. Chalk Jr., and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Maurice M. Chalk Jr.
