HONORING Stony Brook Medicine upon the occasion of
being named a Top 50 Hospital in the Nation by
Healthgrades

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
institutions which have faithfully served the health needs of the
community and its citizens with unwavering diligence, unrelenting
compassion, and a strong sense of commitment to upholding the highest
practices and standards in their field; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Stony Brook Medicine upon the occasion of being named a Top 50 Hospital
in the Nation by Healthgrades, a U.S. company that provides information
about physicians, hospitals, and healthcare providers; and

WHEREAS, Stony Brook Medicine (SBM) integrates and elevates all
Stony Brook University's health-related initiatives: education, research
and patient care; it includes five Health Sciences schools--Renaissance
School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Health
Professions, School of Nursing and School of Social Welfare--as well as
Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Stony
Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, Stony Brook Children's Hospital and
more than 200 community-based healthcare settings throughout Suffolk
County; and

WHEREAS, Stony Brook Medicine has received the highest level of
achievement from Healthgrades as one of America's 50 Best for 2025; this
achievement places Stony Brook Medicine among the top 1% nationwide for
overall care excellence, and is the only hospital on Long Island to be
ranked among America's 50 Best; and

WHEREAS, To determine the top hospitals for 2025, Healthgrades
evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than
30 conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals
nationwide; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious designation is one of many impressive
awards and accolades which Stony Brook Medicine has acquired over the
years, including the Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence Award, Stroke Care
Excellence Award, Neurosciences Excellence Award, Outpatient Orthopedic
Surgery Excellence Award, and Outpatient Prostate Care Excellence Award;
SBM also is the recipient of numerous Five-Star Treatment distinctions
relating to heart attacks, heart failure, strokes, chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease, GI bleed, sepsis, and respiratory failure, among
numerous others; and

WHEREAS, Proving patient safety and care to be the utmost priority
time and time again, Stony Brook Medicine is justly deserving of being
named a Top 50 Hospital in the Nation by Healthgrades, and merits the
applause of all citizens of this great State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, The success of Stony Brook Medicine is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its leadership, its host of dedicated
doctors, nurses, support staff, and volunteers, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Stony Brook Medicine upon the occasion of being named a Top 50
Hospital in the Nation by Healthgrades; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Stony Brook Medicine.
