BILL NUMBER: S2480 SPONSOR: PARKER TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to directing the New York state energy research and development authority to establish a pilot program to install a micro- grid in Glenwood Houses PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: AN ACT in relation to directing the New York state energy and research development authority to establish a pilot program to install a micro- grid in Glenwood Houses SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: No later than one hundred eighty days after the effective date of this act, the New York state energy and research development authority shall establish, within amounts appropriated therefor, a pilot program to install a microgrid in Glenwood Houses in Kings County. 5 Such a microgrid shall be used for local energy production and distrib-

PARKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Energy and Telecommuni- cations AN ACT in relation to directing the New York state energy research and development authority to establish a pilot program to install a micro- grid in Glenwood Houses THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. 1. No later than one hundred eighty days after the effec- tive date of this act, the New York state energy research and develop- ment authority shall establish, within amounts appropriated therefor, a pilot program to install a microgrid in Glenwood Houses in Kings county. Such microgrid shall be used for local energy production and distrib- ution which can function independently if disconnected from the main electricity grid or a supplement for peaks in demand. The microgrid shall be powered by renewable energy sources including but not limited to solar panels, hydrogen or wind, and energy efficient generators which shall be combined with energy storage units such as batteries with low environmental impacts. 2. The authority shall provide an annual report on or before the first day of January to the governor, the temporary president of the senate and the speaker of the assembly, on the pilot program and any recommen- dations for expansion of such pilot program. § 2.
