BILL NUMBER: S4567 SPONSOR: BAILEY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to providing for the New York state of health to help veterans ascertain their eligibility for health care through the department of veterans affairs PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA: To provide veterans with a local intake coordinator when they enroll in Medicaid through the United States Department of Veteran Affairs. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill amends Section 268-c of the public health law by adding a new subdivision providing eligible veterans with assistance and resources to apply for health care benefits through the United States Department of Veteran Affairs.

BAILEY, ASHBY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to providing for the New York state of health to help veterans ascertain their eligibility for health care through the department of veterans affairs THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 268-c of the public health law is amended by adding a new subdivision 27 to read as follows: 27. ASCERTAIN IF A MARKETPLACE APPLICANT IS ELIGIBLE FOR HEALTH CARE THROUGH THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS AND, IF ELIGI- BLE FOR SUCH HEALTH CARE, PROVIDE THE MARKETPLACE APPLICANT WITH RESOURCES TO ALLOW THEM TO APPLY FOR HEALTH CARE BENEFITS THROUGH THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS. § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
