BILL NUMBER: S5784 SPONSOR: FAHY TITLE OF BILL: An act to direct the commissioner of the office of general services to erect a monument to be known as the "New York state Holocaust memorial" PURPOSE: To provide for a memorial for the victims of the Holocaust and to educate the public about the history of the Holocaust and the dangers of antisemitism, racism, and all manifestations of intolerance. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Directs the Commissioner of the Office of General Services to erect a monument on the grounds of the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza which will memorialize all victims who lost their lives in the Holocaust. The monument shall be known as the ("New York State Holocaust Memorial").

FAHY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Procurement and Contracts AN ACT to direct the commissioner of the office of general services to erect a monument to be known as the "New York state Holocaust memori- al" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The commissioner of the office of general services is here- by authorized and directed to erect a suitably marked monument in the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza, in the city of Alba- ny, county of Albany, dedicated to the memory of those victims who lost their lives in the Holocaust. Such monument shall be known as the "New York state Holocaust memorial" and shall be designed to memorialize the victims of the Holocaust and to educate the public about the history of the Holocaust and the dangers of antisemitism, racism, and all manifes- tations of intolerance. § 2. The commissioner of the office of general services shall solicit from organizations who provide Holocaust remembrance services, ideas or suggestions for the design, programming and location of such monument to be erected pursuant to section one of this act. § 3.
