BILL NUMBER: S6350 SPONSOR: WALCZYK TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the correction law, in relation to the identification of correction officers PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To identify correction officers by their badge number instead of their names. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends the correction law by adding a new section no longer requiring correction officers to display their names. Correction offi- cers will now be identified by their badge number alone. Section 2 provides the effective date.

WALCZYK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to the identification of correction officers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The correction law is amended by adding a new section 22-b to read as follows: § 22-B. IDENTIFICATION OF CORRECTION OFFICERS. NO CORRECTION OFFICER EMPLOYED IN A CORRECTIONAL FACILITY SHALL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR OR DISPLAY A TAG DISPLAYING THE CORRECTION OFFICER'S NAME, IN WHOLE OR IN PART. CORRECTION OFFICERS EMPLOYED IN SUCH FACILITIES SHALL BE IDENTIFIED BY A TAG OR OTHER DISPLAY OF THE OFFICER'S BADGE NUMBER ONLY. § 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD08662-01-5
