BILL NUMBER: S6709 SPONSOR: WEBER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to increasing civil service credits given to veterans currently returning from service PURPOSE: To give all veterans who served an active duty equal consideration with regard to civil service examinations.ò SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 1 of section 85 of the civil service law as amended by chapter 333 of the laws of 1993, is stranded to read as follows: (a) The terms "veteran." and non-disabled veteran" mean a member of the armed forces of the United States who served there- in in time of war, who was honorably discharged or released under honor- able circumstances from such service, who is a citizen of t he United States or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the

WEBER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Veterans, Homeland Securi- ty and Military Affairs AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to increasing civil service credits given to veterans currently returning from service THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 2 of section 85 of the civil service law is amended by adding two new subparagraphs 3 and 4 to read as follows: (3) VETERANS HONORABLY DISCHARGED ON OR AFTER JANUARY FIRST, TWO THOU- SAND TWENTY-FIVE, SHALL BE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE TEN POINTS ADDITIONAL CREDIT IN A COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION FOR ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT AND FIVE POINTS ADDITIONAL CREDIT IN A COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION FOR PROMOTION. (4) DISABLED VETERANS HONORABLY DISCHARGED ON OR AFTER JANUARY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND TWENTY-FIVE, SHALL BE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE FIFTEEN POINTS ADDITIONAL CREDIT IN A COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION FOR ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT AND TEN POINTS ADDITIONAL CREDIT IN A COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION FOR PROMOTION. § 2.
