§ 2607. Court reporters
1. Each surrogate may appoint and at pleasure remove one or more court
reporters for the court, whose compensation shall be determined and paid
in the same manner as salaries of clerks in the court.
2. The court reporter appointed to serve in the surrogate's court may
with approval of the surrogate be designated to perform duties in
another court and the court reporter of another court with approval of
the judge thereof may be designated to serve in the surrogate's court.
The provisions of the judiciary law apply to court reporters in the
court.
3. Whenever the service of a court reporter is required and no regular
court reporter is available, or he is sick, absent or unable to act, or
whenever a trial or hearing requires additional reportorial services, a
surrogate may appoint one or more temporary court reporters to serve in
an action or proceeding to be paid a reasonable compensation certified
by the surrogate which shall be a charge upon the city or county and
paid as other expense of the court.
