LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Capital
Area Peer Services, Inc.
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 20th Anniversary of Capital Area Peer Services, Inc. to be
celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Capital Area Peer Services, Inc. (CAPS) promotes dignity,
safety, recovery, and community; it is a peer-run agency that serves
adults in the capital region of New York state who are recovering from
mental illnesses; and
WHEREAS, CAPS uses the unique power of peer services to enhance recov-
ery and self-empowerment; its programs enhance the well-being of those
it serves through increased community integration, systems advocacy, and
problem solving skills in environments that foster self-determination;
and
WHEREAS, CAPS was founded in 1988 as Community Living Associates
Program, Inc.; it was organized by a small group of mental health
service recipients in the Albany, New York area who envisioned a housing
advocacy service that would be staffed by people in recovery from mental
illness; and
WHEREAS, Today, CAPS has grown to include the following six programs:
Consumer Drop-In Center, Peer Support Program, Care Line Consumer Alter-
native Recovery Empowerment Phone Line, Peer Advocacy Inpatient Program,
Peer Bridger Program, and the Supportive Residence Program; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Capital Area Peer Services, Inc.;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Capital Area Peer Services, Inc.
