LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Olga Zilboorg upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Visual and Performing Arts Award by the
Town of Brookhaven Office of Women's Services on March 26, 2009

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Olga Zilboorg has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Olga Zilboorg
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Visual and
Performing Arts Award by the Town of Brookhaven Office of Women's
Services in celebration of National Women's History Month at its 23rd
Annual Women's Recognition Night, held on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at
Brookhaven Town Hall Auditorium, Farmingville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Olga Zilboorg is being honored for her professional achieve-
ments as well as for the generosity and enthusiasm with which she graces
the Town of Brookhaven; and
WHEREAS, Olga Zilboorg, an accomplished cellist, was born in Mexico
City, where she began her music studies at a very young age; she was
only 13 years old when she had her first public appearance as a soloist
with the Fine Arts Chamber Orchestra of Mexico City; and
WHEREAS, Olga Zilboorg's studies continued at the University of Kansas
School of Fine Arts; she went on to receive her Masters degree from The
Manhattan School of Music; and
WHEREAS, From 1958 to 1961, Olga Zilboorg was a member of the St.
Louis Symphony Orchestra, and also toured throughout the United States
with the St. Louis Trio; her European debut was at the Wigmore Hall in
London, in 1963; and
WHEREAS, At this time, Olga Zilboorg played recitals in other European
cities as well as the Soviet Union; her New York debut was at Carnegie
Hall in 1965; and
WHEREAS, Since then, Olga Zilboorg performed in Minsk, Belgrade,
Yugoslovia, and throughout Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Olga Zilboorg was a member of the Long Island Philharmonic
and played frequently with many New York ensembles; a founding member of
North Shore Pro Musica, she currently maintains a large private studio
and teaches at the Stony Brook University's Community Program; and
WHEREAS, Olga Zilboorg is greatly loved by her former students; last
year, she received a special tribute with a concert in her honor at the
Staller Center in Stony Brook; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Olga Zilboorg has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others, which Olga Zilboorg has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Olga Zilboorg upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Visual and Performing Arts Award by the Town of Brookhaven Office of
Women's Services on March 26, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Olga Zilboorg, Port Jefferson, New York.
