LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Greg Heffner upon the occasion of his
retirement as the Planning Director for the Steuben County Planning
Department after 25 years of distinguished public service
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have devoted
themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their community
and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Greg Heffner upon the occasion of his retirement as the Planning Direc-
tor for the Steuben County Planning Department after 25 years of distin-
guished public service on June 25, 2010; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Greg Heffner has continually
demonstrated extreme competence and diligent leadership in his unwaver-
ing service to his community and profession; consequently, he will be
recognized at an Open House to be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at
the Steuben County Legislative Chambers; and
WHEREAS, Greg Heffner began his esteemed career as a Senior Planner
for the Steuben County Planning Department in 1985; displaying exemplary
leadership skills, he was promoted to Planning Director on July 3, 1989,
and as Deputy County Administrator in March 1993; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Greg Heffner also served as Acting County
Administrator from January 5, 1996, until May 13, 1996, and again from
May 25, 2000 until September 24, 2000; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Greg Heffner served Steuben County
with the utmost intelligence and caring dedication, continuously striv-
ing to effectively fulfill the duties of his position; and
WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Greg Heffner has been
called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic and
charitable endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Greg Heffner was instrumental in the establishment of the
Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau and has served on the Board
of Directors since its creation in 1993; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Greg Heffner has served as a Board member on the
Southern Tier Central Regional Planning and Development Board since
1986; he has also been a Board member for the Finger Lakes Resource
Conservation and Development Council since 1998 and currently serves as
its Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman, Greg Heffner is President of the New
York State Venison Donation Coalition, an active member of Trout Unlim-
ited and a New York State Certified Fishing Guide; and
WHEREAS, Greg Heffner is also a Board member of the Bath Housing
Authority; furthermore, he is a world-renowned fly-tier who has had a
book published depicting many of his creations; and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with whom
he worked, Greg Heffner will be remembered for his honesty, integrity,
keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of human problems
in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Arlene, their two
children, Kathy and Scott, as well as their three grandchildren, Spenc-
er, Lily and Rees, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life
and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Greg Heffner upon the occasion of his retirement as the Planning
Director for the Steuben County Planning Department after 25 years of
distinguished public service, and to wish him continued success in all
his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Greg Heffner.
