LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau upon the occa-
sion of the 40th Anniversary of his ordination

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Reverend Dr.
Dwayne Mau upon the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of his ordination;
and
WHEREAS, The son of the late Reverend John and Leona Mau, Reverend Dr.
Dwayne Mau received his early education in Bromall, Pennsylvania and
graduated from Lutheran High School South in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau attended college at Concordia College
in Milwaukee, Concordia University in River Forest before receiving a
Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne; and
WHEREAS, A 1968 graduate of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Reverend
Dr. Dwayne Mau served his vicarage at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in
Denver and on the staff of Holden Village in Washington after completing
seminary; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau also received a Master's degree in
Education from Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond
and a Doctor of Law degree from Concordia College in Bronxville and
pursued additional study at New York Theological Seminary, the New York
Institute of Technology, the National Teacher Education Project Search
Institute, the Mid-Atlantic Committee for Training and Consultation,
Effectiveness Training, The Industrial Areas Foundation, the Albany
Institute, Lancaster Seminary and the Youth and Family Institute; and
WHEREAS, Ordained on June 29, 1969, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau was called
as Assistant Pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Plainview,
Long Island; he later served as Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in
Flushing, the Administrator of the Lutheran School in Flushing and
Project Director for the Joint Lutheran School Project; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau was called to the Atlantic District
of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in 1979 as Staff Executive for
Education; in 1981, he became Staff Executive for Mission and Education,
a multi-portfolio of responsibility for Lutheran Schools, Parish Educa-
tion, New Church Development, Youth Ministry, Outreach and grant writ-
ing; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Atlantic District of the Lutheran
Church-Missouri Synod, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau chaired the Task Force on
Urban Ministry for the Mission Board, was a member of the Task Force on
Lutheran Schools - 21st Century and the Task Force on Lay Ministry and
Alternative Routes to Pastoral Ministry, co-developed the Timothy
Series, led an Urban Mission Tour in New York and was a key leader in
the development of Distance Education Leading to Ordination; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau was called as Pastor of St.
Paul Lutheran Church in Monroe, New York; under his leadership, the
congregation expanded the school to include Kindergarten and First Grade
and began a Saturday Evening Service; and
WHEREAS, The author of OUR CHANGING WORLD - LUTHERAN SCHOOL 21ST
CENTURY, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau has written several articles that have
appeared in books and LUTHERAN EDUCATION, ISSUES IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION;

he has also served as a keynote speaker and presenter at numerous teach-
ers' conferences and pastoral conferences in many districts of the
Synod; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau has served on numer-
ous local and regional ministries; he was Chairman of the Brooklyn-
Queens Conference of Pastors and Principals and served on the Governing
Boards of Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, the Lutheran Ministry in
Higher Education in New York City, the Lutheran Schools Association of
Metro New York, the Center for Urban Education Ministry in Bronxville
and East Coast Common Endeavor; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau served as President of
the Queens Citizen's Organization, Chaplain to the Lakeside Fire and
Rescue Co., on the Wartburg Lutheran Services Board, the Lutheran Care
Center at Concord Village in Poughkeepsie and Coburg Village in Clifton
Park and was active in the development of Habitat for Humanity of Great-
er Newburgh; and
WHEREAS, With Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau throughout have been his wife,
Jan, and their two children, Joy Lyn and David John and his wife,
Aylene, and their grandson, David, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau has brought to his ministry an over-
whelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau upon the occasion of the 40th Anniver-
sary of his ordination, noting his unremitting and compassionate faith
and his exemplary service to God, man, and his community, and extending
to him the heartfelt best wishes of this Legislative Body for a future
of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Dr. Dwayne Mau.
