LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Monte N. Redman upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Queens Botanical Garden
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Monte N. Redman upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-
nition by the Queens Botanical Garden at its 16th Annual Rose Gala to be
held on Thursday, June 9, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Queens Botanical Garden is an urban oasis where people,
plants, and cultures are celebrated through inspiring gardens, innova-
tive educational programs and demonstrations of environmental steward-
ship; and
WHEREAS, President and Chief Operating Officer of Astoria Financial
Corporations and its subsidiary Astoria Federal Savings, Monte N. Redman
is being recognized for his leadership, integrity and dedication to
strengthen local communities; and
WHEREAS, Monte N. Redman graduated magna cum laude from New York
Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and in
1977, he joined the esteemed Astoria Financial Corporations; and
WHEREAS, Steadily rising up the ranks, Monte N. Redman was appointed
Assistant Controller in 1979, and went on to become its Vice President
and Investment Officer in 1985; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Monte N. Redman was appointed Senior Vice President,
Treasurer, and Chief Financial Officer; in 1997, he became the Executive
Vice President, a position in which he remained for the next 10 years,
until ultimately becoming the President and Chief Operating Officer of
Astoria Financial Corporations and its subsidiary Astoria Federal
Savings; and
WHEREAS, Monte N. Redman is a highly respected member of the American
Bankers Association Accounting Committee, the New York Bankers Associ-
ation Accounting and Tax Committee and is a Director and former Chairman
of the Board of Directors of the National Tourette Syndrome Association;
and
WHEREAS, An exemplary leader, Monte N. Redman's unwavering dedication
to environmental advocacy and education has made the success of the
Queens Botanical Garden possible; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Monte N. Redman upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Queens Botanical Garden; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Monte N. Redman.
