LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the New
York Immigration Coalition
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of the New York Immigration Coalition; and
WHEREAS, The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) was founded in 1987
to address the needs of an increasing immigrant population in New York
City; and
WHEREAS, The New York Immigration Coalition advocates for nearly 200
groups across New York City, uniting its multi-racial, multi-ethnic and
multi-sector members and supporting positive social and political
change; and
WHEREAS, The New York Immigration Coalition works to increase civic
participation in the immigrant community, especially through voter
registration and policy advocacy at both the local and state levels; and
WHEREAS, In order to create leadership opportunities for immigrants
across New York City, the New York Immigration Coalition has built and
supported the Immigrant Advocacy Fellowship Program and Immigrant
Concerns Training Institute, and has invested in the creation of the
next generation of advocates for immigrant civil liberties; and
WHEREAS, The New York Immigration Coalition serves as a community
educator, producing brochures and publishing information on health care
services, and safe and affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, The New York Immigration Coalition strives to break down
barriers and stigmas surrounding the immigrant community through
outreach to the residents of New York City and its policymakers; and
WHEREAS, In order to realize the dream of shared prosperity, the New
York Immigrant Coalition fights for solutions that benefit all Americans
and uphold the dignity of all individuals, and serves to welcome and
integrate newcomers; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the New York Immigration Coalition;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York Immigration Coalition.
