LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Lawrence Proper for his ceaseless
dedicated service to his community

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Proper has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lawrence Prop-
er for his ceaseless dedicated service to his community to be celebrated
at a surprise recognition dinner on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the
Pond Restaurant, Ancram, New York; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Town Clerk Lawrence Proper has been called upon to
contribute his time and talents to countless civic and charitable
endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Proper began his illustrious career with the Town of
Copake in 1972; during his 32 years with the town he worked in many
capacities including Deputy Highway Superintendent, Highway Superinten-
dent Town Clerk, Head of Williams Cemetery, Town Park Superintendent,
and is currently the Deputy Town Clerk; and
WHEREAS, A life member of the Copake Fire Department, today, Lawrence
Proper has over 25 years of distinguished service with the department;
during this time, he has held the office of Treasurer for the Board of
Commissioners as well as Treasurer for the Copake Fire Company; he is
also on the Board of Directors for the Copake Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, For over 20 years, Lawrence Proper was a member of the Commu-
nity Rescue Squad serving as a Line Officer as well as on its Board of
Directors; and
WHEREAS, A frequent volunteer within his community, Lawrence Proper
spent eight years as a Coach of the Copake Little League; he also offers
his time helping out local non-profit organizations, local schools, and
local Boy Scout Troops; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Lawrence Proper has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Lawrence Proper has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and volunteer
efforts, Lawrence Proper's ongoing endeavors and notable achievements
have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life in his
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Lawrence Proper for his ceaseless dedicated service to his
community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lawrence Proper, 447 County Route 7A, Copake, New York 12516.
