LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Elaine Torda upon the occasion of her
designation as the recipient of a 2013 SUNY Chancellor's Award for
Excellence in Teaching

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Elaine Torda upon the occasion of her designation as the recipient of a
2013 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching; and
WHEREAS, Elaine Torda joined the SUNY Orange faculty in 2000 when she
was hired as an English Instructor; she has coordinated the College's
growing Honors Program since 2003 and, in 2011, was named Chair of SUNY
Orange's new Interdisciplinary Studies Department; she serves, as well,
as Vice President of the College's Governance Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, Elaine Torda is also a member of the National Collegiate
Honors Council Board of Directors and just recently completed her sixth
year as lead Co-chair of the Council's Two-Year College Committee; and
WHEREAS, Under her supervision and with the aid of faculty mentors
from all corners of the College, SUNY Orange's Honors Students have
strongly represented the College, making presentations at such presti-
gious student seminars as the Beacon Conference and the Northeast
Regional Honors Council Conference; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of individuals such as Elaine Torda, who, by providing their
skills and talents to our schools, work to support our proud tradition
of public education; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Elaine Torda and to wish her contin-
ued success in her endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elaine Torda upon the occasion of her designation as the recipient
of a 2013 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elaine Torda.
