LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Flushing YMCA upon the occasion of
hosting its 13th Annual Community Service Awards Dinner

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
illustrious organizations within this great State and Nation whose focus
and intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
the Flushing YMCA upon the occasion of hosting its 13th Annual Community
Service Awards Dinner, to be celebrated on Thursday, November 14, 2013;
and
WHEREAS, This special event will be held at Kum Gang San Restaurant
located in Flushing, Queens; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Flushing YMCA honorees are: Daniel J. Leone,
Executive Director of QPTV (Queens Public Television), Elda Ramratan
Community Service Award; and Mr. Ki Chol Kim, President of the National
Unification Advisory Council and the 28th President of the Korean Ameri-
can Association, Distinguished Public Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, Each year the Flushing YMCA hosts an Annual Dinner that
supports many youth programs by providing scholarships to youth and
families who are unable to pay for activities and services; in 2013, the
Flushing YMCA will affect the lives of over 14,000 youth and teens; and
WHEREAS, Through a wide range of programs, including Leaders Club,
Youth & Government, Y After School, and entrepreneur programs such as
Future Works, the Flushing YMCA is helping to ensure that children and
teens develop to their full potential in spirit, mind and body; the YMCA
is a place for children to laugh, learn and grow in an environment of
caring, safety and support; and
WHEREAS, From cities to suburbs to small towns, YMCAs work to promote
youth development, healthy living and social responsibility; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Flushing YMCA upon the occasion of hosting its 13th Annual
Community Service Awards Dinner; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Flushing YMCA, and to the aforementioned honorees.
