LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration
Corporation upon the occasion of hosting its Restore Brooklyn Annual
Benefit on October 17, 2013, and honoring Daniel L. Doctoroff for
special recognition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
community-based organizations which devote their energy, resources, and
purposeful endeavors to improving the community's quality, economy, and
character of life; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commend the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation upon the occasion
of hosting its Restore Brooklyn Annual Benefit, at the Waldorf Astoria,
on October 17, 2013, and to honor Daniel L. Doctoroff for special recog-
nition; and
WHEREAS, Daniel L. Doctoroff is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and
President of Bloomberg L.P., the leading provider of financial informa-
tion; he joined Bloomberg L.P. in January 2008 as President of the
Company and was appointed CEO in August 2011; and
WHEREAS, Daniel L. Doctoroff received a bachelor of arts degree from
Harvard College and a J.D. degree from The Law School at the University
of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Alisa and their three
children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Daniel L. Doctoroff serves on the Boards of the University of
Chicago, World Resources Institute, Youth Inc., Committee Encouraging
Corporate Philanthropy, Human Rights First, Riverside Park Fund and
National Academy Foundation; and
WHEREAS, His support of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation
resulted in strengthened commercial corridors, new and revitalized
public spaces, and the creation of new businesses and jobs; and
WHEREAS, Born of the seed of public concern, the Bedford Stuyvesant
Restoration Corporation (Restoration) was launched in 1967, by Bedford
Stuyvesant community residents with the bipartisan support of United
States Senators Robert F. Kennedy and Jacob K. Javits as the nation's
first community development association (CDC); a trailblazer for the
more than 3,000 CDCs which exist across the country today, it proudly
continues to be a leader in the field of community development; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Restoration has been striving to make
Bedford Stuyvesant a better place for residents and businesses alike; to
this end, it provides a full spectrum of programs which promote self-
sufficiency and inspire family and youth to succeed in work, at school,
and at home; from increasing access to jobs which pay living wages to
preserving the rich cultural legacy upon which Bedford Stuyvesant prides
itself, Restoration is a catalyst for tangible change in Central Brook-
lyn, facilitating neighborhood improvement while serving as a model for
distressed communities nationwide; and
WHEREAS, True to its purpose and active in its endeavors, the Bedford
Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation has pursued its course with high
motivation and much success; it continues to lead through the provision
of services which increase access to affordable housing, facilitate the
attainment of jobs which pay living wages, promote financial literacy
and asset creation, nurture arts and culture, and empower individuals to
reach their full potential; and
WHEREAS, With a strong vision and commitment, the Bedford Stuyvesant
Restoration Corporation has established a standard of high purpose and

worthy accomplishment which merits the highest commendation of this
Legislative Body and the people of the City and State of New York; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation upon the occasion
of hosting its Restore Brooklyn Annual Benefit, at the Waldorf Astoria,
on October 17, 2013, and to honor Daniel L. Doctoroff for special recog-
nition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, and Daniel L.
Doctoroff.
