LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Liverpool Girls Softball Leag-
ue upon the occasion of the organization's 40th Anniversary

WHEREAS, Excellence in competitive team sports is achieved only through
dedicated practice and teamwork, nurtured by devoted coaching, strategic
planning and parental and community support; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this state, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of accomplishment, accountability and
determination, while encouraging a standard of healthy living and a
desire for success; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such principals, and fully in accord with long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to hereby
recognize and congratulate the Liverpool Girls Softball League upon the
occasion of the organization's 40th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Liverpool Girls Softball League was founded in 1973 by a
group of dedicated parents and community members who wanted to create an
opportunity for young women throughout Central New York to develop life-
long physical, social, and leadership abilities, while experiencing the
joy that comes from both individual effort and team work; and
WHEREAS, The Liverpool Girls Softball League is a non-profit, all
volunteer-based organization that offers recreational softball to girls
ages 5-19 throughout the Central New York area with the primary goal of
providing a positive athletic experience for all participants; and
WHEREAS, Each specific program of the Liverpool Girls Softball League
is designed to help players develop fundamental softball skills, in a
safe and supportive environment in which all participants get to play;
and
WHEREAS, The Liverpool Girls Softball League serves nearly 300 female
athletes in 20 different teams, and each team consists of a manager and
several coaches and assistants who are adult mentors, as well as fellow
Liverpool Girls Softball League players who mentor as young coaches; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, the Liverpool Girls Softball League began practicing
and playing on its current home field complex at James Wemesfelder Park,
formerly known as Electronics Park, in the Town of Salina; and
WHEREAS, Sports instill the values of teamwork, pride and accomplish-
ment, and the outstanding athletes of the Liverpool Girls Softball Leag-
ue have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence that
stands as a tradition of their community; and
WHEREAS, For the past 40 years, the Liverpool Girls Softball League
has diligently worked to preserve the tradition of slow-pitch softball
in the Central New York community, while looking for ways to reach new
audiences, such as Ladies Fall Ball for women 20 years and older; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Liverpool Girls
Softball League, players, coaches, board members and many proud communi-
ty leaders will participate in a family-fun celebration on Saturday,
June 15, 2013, at Wemesfelder Park, featuring food, face painting,
games, a bounce house, snow cones, and many more activities; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body hereby pause to recognize and
congratulate the Liverpool Girls Softball League upon the occasion of
the organization's 40th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Denise Murray, President of the 2013 Board of Directors for
the Liverpool Girls Softball League.
