LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the 2013 East Meadow High School
Varsity Girls Softball Team upon the occasion of capturing the Class AA
Long Island Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, June 4, 2013, the East Meadow High School Varsity
Girls Softball Team captured the Class AA Long Island Championship by
defeating Longwood by a score of 7-0 at the Dowling Sports Complex; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the 2013 East Meadow High School Varsity Girls
Softball Team won its semi-final New York State Class AA game at the
Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury, New York, shutting out Union-
Endicott by a score of 8-0; and
WHEREAS, The 2013 East Meadow High School Varsity Girls Softball Team
compiled an excellent 17-8 season record; and
WHEREAS, In addition to winning the Class AA Long Island Championship,
the 2013 East Meadow Jets were the Nassau County Class AA Champions and
New York State Class AA finalists; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Head Coach Stew Fritz and Assistant Coach Becky
Wachsberger, skilled and inspirational mentors, respected for their
ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the 2013 East Meadow High School Varsity
Girls Softball Team, from the opening game of the season to capturing
the Class AA Long Island Championship, were a sisterhood of athletic
ability, of good sportsmanship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrat-
ing that these team players are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Stew Fritz and Assistant Coach Becky Wachsberger
has done a superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the 2013 East
Meadow High School Varsity Girls Softball Team members toward their
goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment; Head Coach Stew Fritz and Assistant Coach Becky
Wachsberger and the 2013 East Meadow High School Varsity Girls Softball
Team's outstanding athletes have clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 2013 East Meadow High School Varsity Girls Softball
Team; its members: Taylor Conti, Ariel Cornfield, Danielle Cutuli,
Sandra Foster, Mary Hosey, Jessica Laird, Dina LaRosa, Tianna LaRosa,
Crista SanAntonio, Marisa SanAntonio, Kerri Shapiro, Claire Travis,
Madison West, Victoria Bova, Ashley Halkitis, Kristen Lindquist, Ashley
Smith and Ashley Vecchione and Head Coach Stew Fritz and Assistant Coach
Becky Wachsberger on their Class AA Long Island Championship and their
outstanding season; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members and coaching staff of the 2013 East Meadow High
School Varsity Girls Softball Team.
