LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the William
Hodson Community Center
WHEREAS, A great State is only as great as those individuals and organ-
izations which perform exemplary service on behalf of their community,
whether through unique achievement in professional or other endeavors,
or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Legislative Body to honor the
William Hodson Community Center for Exemplary Service to the community
and State upon the occasion of its 70th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The William Hodson Community Center was the first senior
center established in the nation, opening its doors in the Bronx in
1943, with a mission to provide a "home away from home" where seniors
can establish nurturing relationships and feel a general sense of
belonging; and
WHEREAS, The William Hodson Community Center has 250 members who enjoy
classes and activities such as computer literacy, nutrition and fitness
workshops, current event discussions, parties, and bingo, and for gener-
ations, the historical center has provided a place for seniors of all
nationalities, creeds, and races to live life to the fullest; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such notable aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those organiza-
tions for the edification and emulation of others; and
WHEREAS, Such service, which is truly the lifeblood of the community
and the State, so often goes unrecognized and unheralded; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the William Hodson Community Center;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the William Hodson Community Center.
