LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Frewsburg Central High School
"Bears" Girls' Softball Team upon the occasion of capturing the New York
State Public High School Athletic Association Class C Championship

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor outstanding high school athletic teams that have exhibited the
teamwork, commitment and drive to succeed in athletic competitions in
this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The Frewsburg Central High School "Bears" Girls' Softball
Team achieved their first softball title in school history, a Class C
State Championship, with its 2-1 win over the Sandy Creek "Comets" on
June 8, 2013 at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury, New York;
and
WHEREAS, This talented group of young athletes embodies the true spir-
it of teamwork in achieving a goal, all while demonstrating the ability
to balance the commitments of academics, family and athletics; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing the heart, desire, team chemistry and capabili-
ties of this team, the Frewsburg Central High School head coaching staff
encouraged this group of talented players as they made their dreams of a
championship come true; and
WHEREAS, The Frewsburg "Bears" Girls' Softball Team, from the very
beginning of the season, were determined to win the Class C State Cham-
pionship; in their opening game, Frewsburg tallied six runs and six hits
from its first three batters which led them to a 7-0 victory over
Section 11's youthful Pierson/Bridghamton squad; and
WHEREAS, Although the team was elated to have won their opener, there
was little celebration; these young athletes remained focused on the
ultimate goal of winning the State Championship; and
WHEREAS, The last game that stood between the Bears and their title
was against Sandy Creek; the Bears knew the competition was fierce, but
held tightly onto their dream of being champions; and
WHEREAS, In the second inning of the championship game, Frewsburg
Senior Sam Mott hit the first and only home run of the game, giving
Frewsburg a 1-0 advantage over Sandy Creek; and
WHEREAS, With the lead established, it was Alanna Blanchard's hit five
innings later that brought it home for this determined group of young
athletes; and
WHEREAS, With teammate McKenzie Cass on second base, Alanna Blanchard
approached the plate with two outs and the pressure building; despite
strong pitching from the Sandy Creek Comets, Blanchard slammed an RBI
single, putting the Bears in a 2 run lead over the Comets; and
WHEREAS, As the game continued, the Bears inched toward the champion-
ship; in the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Bears maintained
their 2-0 lead with the Comets up to bat; and
WHEREAS, The Sandy Creek Comets cut this deficit to one when a RBI
double was drilled down the left-field line, pushing one runner across
home plate; and
WHEREAS, The next play stopped the hearts of everyone in attendance;
the Bears tossed a pitch that skipped off the catcher's glove and skid-
ded to the backstop; Reyanne Strong leapt up and raced to the ball while
Sam Mott hustled to the plate to ensure that no Sandy Creek runner would
get past her; and
WHEREAS, Sam Mott's quick thinking proved to be a success when the
umpire called the runner out and that the Bears were the State Cham-
pions; and

WHEREAS, The Frewsburg Central High School Softball Team ended its
season with a well-earned Class C Championship Title; now, therefore, be
