LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Statue
of Venus in the Town of Wolcott, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts
of those who seek to bring recognition to historical places within the
State of New York, and in doing so, help to ensure that the complete
history of our State and Nation is preserved and shared with present
generations of citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the Statue of Venus in the Town of
Wolcott, New York, to be celebrated on Saturday, July 13, 2013; and
WHEREAS, In honor of this very important celebratory day, the Wolcott
Historical Society has many events planned for this historic moment; and
WHEREAS, One of the landmarks of Wolcott is the statue of "Venus
Rising From the Sea" at the four corners in downtown Wolcott; the statue
is made of cast iron and is one of only eight in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Statue of Venus arrived in September of 1913; it was felt
that with the installation of a public water system in the village,
there should be some kind of public drinking fountain at the site of the
old town pump and four corners; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Wolcott has had this worldwide attraction since
1913, which is located in the center of town; at one time, there was a
natural spring that came up out of the ground and was used to water the
horses; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for the Statue of Venus in the Town of
Wolcott, and for all of the individuals who have worked to bring proper
attention to a place and time which merits recognition in the grand
panorama of the history of our State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Statue of Venus in the Town of
Wolcott, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Wolcott Historical Society.
