LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Shirley Ann Thornton
VanZetta, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Ann Thornton VanZetta, a 41-year resident of Highland
Falls, New York, passed away on May 28, 2013, at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 19, 1927, Shirley Ann Thornton VanZetta was
the daughter of the late Michael P. Thornton and Amelia Ebel Thornton;
and
WHEREAS, Shirley Ann Thornton VanZetta worked for many years as the
Director of Public Health Nursing for the Orange County Department of
Health in Goshen, New York; she was an active member of the community,
volunteering in many different capacities, and will be truly missed by
all; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her loving husband, James A. VanZetta, and her
brothers, Michael E. Thornton and Thomas Thornton, Shirley Ann Thornton
VanZetta is survived by her sons, James (Nancy) and George (Teresa);
daughter, Christine (Thomas); sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Jean Thornton
and Carmela VanZetta; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Brooks, Kelly, Seth,
Ryan, and Thomas; and 13 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Nadia, Carmen,
Severn, Kyler, Savannah, Lyric, Seth, John, Makayla, Angelina, Collette,
and Amelia; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Shirley Ann Thornton VanZetta leaves behind a legacy which
will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting
memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Shirley Ann Thornton VanZetta, distinguished citizen
and devoted member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Shirley Ann Thornton VanZetta.
