LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Warwick
Applefest on Sunday, October 6, 2013

WHEREAS, New York State is the second largest grower of apples in the
United States and grows more varieties of apples than any other State in
the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Important events are held each year to highlight the signif-
icance of the apple industry to our State's economy; one such event is
the Warwick Applefest to be held Sunday, October 6, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Applefest began in 1989, as a simple harvest celebration to
support the Warwick Valley Community Center; and
WHEREAS, Named one of the "Top 100 Events" in the country and voted
the "Best Food and Best Family & Arts Festival" for the past three years
by readers of the TIMES HERALD-RECORD newspaper, over 30,000 visitors
now attend the one-day event, traveling from neighboring states to expe-
rience the extraordinary variety of Warwick's apples, culture, and
entertainment; and
WHEREAS, This pleasurable festival is produced by the Warwick Valley
Chamber of Commerce and the Warwick Valley Community Center; it features
over 200 craft vendors; dozens of food vendors; 50 local non-profit
exhibitors; music and entertainment; a children's carnival; a farmers'
market; and an Apple Pie Baking Contest; and
WHEREAS, The Warwick Applefest, through its long and sustained commit-
ment, has successfully combined the apple industry, rural tradition, and
recreation; it greatly enhances community pride and fosters the treas-
ured values of family unity and wholesome entertainment, producing a
significant benefit for the citizens of Warwick, New York, and surround-
ing areas, and the thousands of visitors who travel there to share the
competition, beauty and hospitality of the Applefest; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Warwick Applefest on Sunday,
October 6, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Warwick Applefest 2013 Committee.
