LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Goody Goodies upon the occasion of
hosting its 1st Annual Sweet 16 Awards Celebration

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Goody Goodies upon the occasion of hosting its 1st Annual "Bee The
Change" Sweet 16 Awards Celebration, to be celebrated on June 30, 2013,
at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, Goody Goodies' goal is providing a meaningful vehicle for
youth advocacy to give assistance to children who have suffered a loss;
the program raises awareness for children in need of education, food,
medical attention, a happier life, friendship, and hope to those most in
need; and
WHEREAS, Goody Goodies was established by 18-year-old Macallan Durkin
who lived in Botswana, Africa for almost three years; while she was
there, she saw a great number of animals and raised a few orphaned wild
ones; and
WHEREAS, Macallan Durkin wondered why there were places for homeless,
orphaned animals, but not for children; subsequently, she and her mother
kept this idea near their hearts until the current establishment of
Goody Goodies; and
WHEREAS, Goody Goodies' "Bee the Change" sweet 16 Awards Celebration
honors 16 sweet role models between the ages of 8 and 18 in Hudson
Valley; and
WHEREAS, The awards celebration features a fair trade fashion show,
talent show, and exposition to inspire young girls to become leaders;
and
WHEREAS, Part of the proceeds from the celebration will go to Safe
Passage, a non-profit organization that brings hope, education, and
opportunity to children and families living in extreme poverty around
Guatemala City's garbage dump; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Macallan Durkin represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our young people; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Goody Goodies upon the occasion of hosting its 1st Annual Sweet
16 Awards Celebration; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Goody Goodies.
