LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary Pat Hancock upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Wolcott "Jay" Humphrey III Excel-
lence in Community Leadership Award by the Genesee County Chamber of
Commerce
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Mary Pat Hancock has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary Pat
Hancock upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Wolcott
"Jay" Humphrey III Excellence in Community Leadership Award by the Gene-
see County Chamber of Commerce; this momentous occasion will be cele-
brated at the Chamber's Annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, February 22,
2014, at the Clarion Hotel; and
WHEREAS, Mary Pat Hancock, a retired School Counselor, is a graduate
of Northwestern University with a Master's degree in Counseling from
SUNY Buffalo, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration from
SUNY Brockport; and
WHEREAS, Elected to the Legislature in 1992, Mary Pat Hancock was the
Chairperson of the Genesee County Legislature from 2001-2013, and
represented the Towns of Stafford and Batavia in District Four; her
responsibilities and duties expanded when she was chosen to serve as
President of the New York State Association of Counties Governing Board;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Mary Pat Hancock serves on the Finger Lakes
Regional Economic Development Council, the Genesee Regional Planning
Council, and is Chairperson of the Genesee Regional Transportation Coun-
cil; and
WHEREAS, With a vision to improve the efficiency, convenience, and
quality of County Government, Mary Pat Hancock has used each of her
roles in government to expand her opportunity to deliver the best possi-
ble service to the people she serves; and
WHEREAS, Mary Pat Hancock has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Previously elected to the Batavia City School Board and BOCES
Board, Mary Pat Hancock served as President of each; she currently
serves on the Board of Directors of the Municipal Electric and Gas Alli-
ance Board (MEGA), and on the State Blue Ribbon Task Force on Agricul-
ture; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Mary Pat Hancock has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her four loving children, and
ten beautiful grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
her life and rejoice in her accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Mary Pat Hancock has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Pat Hancock upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Wolcott "Jay" Humphrey Ill Excellence in Community Leadership
Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Pat Hancock.
