LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Laurie Mastin upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2013 Geneseean of the Year Award by
the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business organ-
izations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Laurie Mastin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2013 Geneseean of the Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of
Commerce; this momentous occasion will be celebrated at the Chamber's
Annual Awards Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at
the Clarion Hotel; and
WHEREAS, Laurie Mastin is a special person and a unique asset to Gene-
see County; she has been a Consumer Representative Professional at
National Grid for the past 34 years, working exclusively in Western New
York, and the majority of her career in the Batavia Service Center; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Laurie is viewed by senior management, as well
as her peers, as an employee of excellence; given her exceptional attri-
butes, she could have chosen any of the higher levels within National
Grid, however, due to her priorities of family and sincere commitment to
the local area, her life choices have benefited all of Genesee County;
and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Laurie Mastin's volunteerism to
Genesee County began as an active mom, heavily involved in raising her
sons; she was a Cub Scout den leader and Committee member of Pavilion
Cub Scout Pack 16 and Boy Scout Troop 16; within Boy Scouts, she was a
presenter/counselor at Letchworth District Merit Badge Scout College,
and organized the first Genesee District Merit Badge College at GCC for
local scouts in all towns of Genesee County; and
WHEREAS, From 1998 to 2004, Laurie Mastin was an active volunteer and
organizer for the Steve Garland Wrestling Tournament at the Pavilion
Central School, and for more than seven years, she was Junior Achieve-
ment (JA) Presenter at John Kennedy School in Batavia; for the past
three years, she has been a presenter with the counties Business Educa-
tion Alliance's (BEA) annual BOCES trade-fair; and
WHEREAS, As a woman of faith, Laurie Mastin has always supported her
church, St. Mary's of Pavilion; she is a regular volunteer at the
Church's breakfast, and served on the Board of Trustees from 2005 to
2007; and
WHEREAS, For the past 15 years, Laurie Mastin has gone above and
beyond in her involvement with the Rotary of Batavia; she is currently
in her second term as a Rotary Board Member, and serves as the Board's
Co-Secretary; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Laurie Mastin has been an active Rotary Chair-
person on the Youth Exchange Selection, Christmas at County Nursing
Home, Girls Basketball Tournament, Oktoberfest, and the UW Day of Caring
Rotary teams; in recognition of her tremendous Batavia Rotary commit-
ment, she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award; and
WHEREAS, Laurie Mastin has also given of her time and energies to
GO-ART; throughout her decade of volunteerism to this organization, she
has served in numerous capacities, some of which include Treasurer on
the Board and Secretary on the Board; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her volunteerism in business and the arts, one
of Laurie Mastin's finest qualities is her tender heart for the less
fortunate in the community; The Genesee-Orleans Ministry of Concern is
the "Agency of Last Resort", working with people who have nowhere else
to go; Laurie provided leadership to the Ministry of Concern, serving on
their Board of Directors from 2009 to 2011, as well as for their Youth
Mentoring Program; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, Laurie Mastin chose Leadership Genesee (LG) as her
source for personal development; her commitment to LG exposed her to a
broader view of Genesee County beyond her personal and professional
experiences; and
WHEREAS, Well after her graduation, Laurie Mastin continues to support
the LG mission, and since 2004 has served on the Steering and Scholar-
ship committees, shaping the program to build future Genesee leaders; in
2007, LG named her their Alumnus of the Year, in gratitude for her
passionate contributions to advance the organization; and
WHEREAS, The YWCA of Genesee County is dedicated to eliminating
racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and
dignity to all; in 2008, Laurie Mastin was recognized and presented with
the Fabulous Female Award for her embodiment of each of these attri-
butes; and
WHEREAS, Laurie Mastin provides true leadership to each grateful
organization she touches throughout Genesee County; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of 31 years, Randy,
and their three sons, Gregory, Andrew, and Michael, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her accomplishments;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Laurie Mastin; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Laurie Mastin upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the 2013 Geneseean of the Year Award by the Genesee County
Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Laurie Mastin.
