LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Manli-
us Fire Department

WHEREAS, It is in the sense of this Legislative Body to commemorate the
200th Anniversary of the Manlius Fire Department, and to honor all of
its past and present members, for providing the citizens of the Village
of Manlius with 200 years of exemplary fire protection; and
WHEREAS, Fire departments are an integral part of community protection
in localities across this great State; and
WHEREAS, For the past 200 years, the courageous and dedicated fire-
fighters of the Manlius Fire Department have valiantly devoted their
hard work and effort to respond to various fire emergencies, all while
earning the praise and respect of the community in which they serve; and
WHEREAS, The Manlius Fire Department first began serving citizens in
1813 from its original fire station on what is now called Flume Road;
the fire station was then housed at the King and King Building from 1947
to 1968; and
WHEREAS, Presently, there are two stations in operation; Station 1 was
constructed in 1968, and Station 2 was constructed in 1987; and
WHEREAS, The Manlius Fire Department began its history with horse
drawn wagons and a hay barn, and it has grown significantly throughout
the years to include a wide array of modern fire and EMS equipment; and
WHEREAS, Since its establishment in 1813, the Manlius Fire Department
has grown its fleet to more than 10 modern fire and rescue vehicles,
increased its emergency services and its membership, and made advance-
ments in technology in order to meet the changing needs of the district;
and
WHEREAS, For the past 200 years, the Manlius Fire Department has
provided various fire and rescue services to the residents of the
Village of Manlius and also the Town of Pompey, such as fire
suppression, fire prevention, vehicle rescue, life support medical
services, and community education programs; the fire department current-
ly responds to more than 2,220 service calls a year; and
WHEREAS, Each day, the brave members of the Manlius Fire Department
prepare to risk their lives, in order to protect the life and property
of all those living within their community; the department currently has
112 members on its roster; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York cannot express sufficient gratitude to
all of those trained and devoted individuals who serve and protect their
communities through fire departments across the state, and enough cannot
be said about the important role that a village fire department plays in
the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize the Manlius Fire Department upon the occasion of its 200th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Buskey, Chief, Manlius Fire Department.
