LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Emergency Medical Services volunteers
from the Great Neck Vigilant Engine and Hook & Ladder Company upon the
occasion of being recognized for several prestigious honors by the
Nassau County Regional EMS Council
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the concerned and caring work of citizens who voluntarily assist
in safeguarding the safety and welfare of their neighbors and community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Emergency Medical Services volunteers from the Great Neck Vigilant
Engine and Hook & Ladder Company upon the occasion of being recognized
for several prestigious honors by the Nassau County Regional EMS Coun-
cil; and
WHEREAS, Vigilant, which is responsible for all emergency calls north
of the Long Island Rail Road tracks, was given honorable mention in the
EMS "Agency of The Year" Category, while five of its members were also
honored for their individual achievements; and
WHEREAS, Twin brothers, Jeremy and Joshua Feintuch, recent NYU gradu-
ates who are currently applying for medical school, shared the "Basic
Life Support Provider of the Year" Award for their immense participation
in its public education program, and initiative in conjunction with the
American Heart Association; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Steven Blocker, who led the unit during the past
year, was given honorable mention in the Leadership Award category; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Vigilant held the largest public education CPR
training in the history of the United States; the Vigilant team trained
over 6000 student, staff and faculty members in the Great Neck public
school district; that number is almost 7000 trained to date; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Bleck, President of the Vigilant EMS group, and Lieu-
tenant Joseph Oginski both received Honorable Mention recognition in the
Basic Life Support Provider of the Year category; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Bleck, who has served Vigilant for over 20 years,
owns NuClear Cleaners and is also part owner of Bagel Mentch; Lieutenant
Joseph Oginski is finishing his degree work at John Jay College for
Criminal Justice and has his own web development business; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Chief Laurence Jacobs and Assistant Chief Joshua
Charry were credited for their dedicated support to the Company; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer ambulance corps members are an important part of
the safety net of America's healthcare system; they provide lifesaving
care to those in need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the
survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or
injury; and
WHEREAS, In the performance of their duties, the Vigilant EMS volun-
teers have demonstrated their character and their compassion for the
welfare of others; these outstanding individuals are a tremendous asset
to their EMS Unit and are all distinguished citizens of this great State
and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Emergency Medical Services volunteers from the Great Neck Vigilant
Engine and Hook & Ladder Company upon the occasion of being recognized
for several prestigious honors by the Nassau County Regional EMS Coun-
cil; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned honorees.
