LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating 37 seniors in the Great Neck
Public Schools upon the occasion of being named Commended Students in
the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late 37 seniors in the Great Neck Public Schools upon the occasion of
being named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship
Program; and
WHEREAS, To achieve this auspicious honor, the students placed among
the top five percent of the more than 1.5 million juniors who took the
2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test; and
WHEREAS, Each Commended Student, all of whom demonstrated outstanding
potential for academic success, received a letter of commendation in
recognition of exceptional academic promise; and
WHEREAS, North High's Commended Students are: Daniel Bar-Lavi, Nicole
Biton, Tyler Bloom, Arabelle Chafe, Yinny Chan, Daniel Engelson, Richard
Feder, Juliet Freudman, Kamla Kumar, Jessica Nassimi, Allison Rosenbaum,
Alexander Schneidman, Hally Silberg, Paula Tartell, Tina Watson, and
Terry Wei; and
WHEREAS, South High's Commended Students are: Justin Chang, Matthew
Chang, Christine Chung, Alanna Fichtel, Audrey Fok, Evageline Giannopou-
los, Sharon Glick, Jarett Gross, Rachel Hand, Victoria Hsiao, Gary
Huang, Sam Huang, Annie Jiang, Skyler Kanfer, Kevin Ko, Prasanth Kurup,
Margot Metz, Daniel Rosenfeld, Ariel Serruya, Jay Shah, and Brian Song;
and
WHEREAS, In achieving high academic honor, the 37 seniors may take
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excel-
lence they have brought to their families, friends, community and
schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate 37 seniors in the Great Neck Public Schools upon the occa-
sion of being named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Schol-
arship Program, and best wishes for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned students.
